SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER (SYSTEMS, MACHINES & CONTROLS),

I ran two programmes which one was to design, develop and manufacture a FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) Harrier and AV8B (3-year cost plus, fixed fee with a value of $9m for R&D and $4m for production) which services a global requirement with over 7 customers. The second programme was to finish design and production implementation for the Aileron, Elevator & Rudder (Primary Flight Control System) and Slat motor (Secondary Electric Channel) for Airbus A380 (4-year company funded with a design budget of $11m and yearly production worth $16m).
I began at Goodrich working on Falcon 7X ($50m commercial project). Due to aggressive timescales imposed by the customer (this was due to the programme running 3 years late at the time of my arrival to the company) I was tasked to deliver Safety of Flight for Stage 1 hardware (Primary Electrical Distribution System, batteries & Permanent Magnet Alternator) for a brand new and revolutionary private jet, within three months (usual timescale was 8 months). Had to also contend with a daily change by the customer & internal engineering to which I had a team instigate an extensive change management and quality system as the current system was not adequate to deal with the situation (now used as company standard). Safety of flight was brought in on time and within my forecasted budget. My final responsibility before moving off project was to deliver in-service readiness for the complete aircraft system (Europe & States) which encompassed Technical Publications, Product Support (In-service Management), Spares, Logistics, ILS, MRO & Configuration.
Continuous Improvement (CI) via use of Lean Product Development (LPD) tools.
Primary contact with customers.
Ability to construct bids and run cost plus contracts for British and American military.
Simultaneous management of numerous complex projects across different international sites.
Ability to lead a large team plus set objectives and perform yearly appraisals.
Global subcontract management.
Financial forecasting on monthly basis for personal projects and yearly for complete programmes, including varying currencies and exchange rates.
Excellent knowledge and experience of commercial contracts.
Responsible for detailed planning of own projects and top-level planning for whole programme.
Creation and perform weekly presentations (planning, forecast & progress) to company senior executives and monthly programme progress to customer senior executive’s (always offsite).
Extensive global travel.
Successful track history of cradle to grave (Concept, detailed design to EIS).
